This blog is woefully out of date. I’ll get round to sorting it out soon as since the last major update I’ve had a few more boats that I need to document. I’ve also set up a new blog, just about the restoration of Zenith the Sven Thorell designed sailing canoe – now available at […]

Dusting off the blog
May 23rd, 2017 · No Comments
As with most projects there’s always some slippage. Realised that the blog has been unattended for many years, but looking through the comments that have been stacking up for approval there’s still some interest in old boats. Much has happened since the last update. Work, getting married, house move, rebuilding Land Rovers etc have meant […]

International Canoe – GBR 304
January 11th, 2008 · 2 Comments
After competeing the the International Canoe World Championships in Weymouth in 2005 I met up with Christian Knott from Australia who persuaded me (not that I needed much persuasion) that I really need to buy his IC after the Worlds. I ended up swapping GBR 212 and a significant amount of cash for the orange boat, […]

International Canoe GBR 212 – Waning Planker After having sailed an older IC, SCATT III, I bought a Pyrahna Carbon IC – GBR212 in 2002. This boat needed mainly cosmetic work and was treated to a total strip down of all deck gear, followed by a refit and paint job.

International Canoe – K37, Rannoch sailing
January 4th, 2008 · 2 Comments
International Canoe K37 – Rannoch The August Bank Holiday weekend finally saw Rannoch take to the water. I have to say, it’s a different experience sailing a 60 year old boat compared with a new IC. The narrow sliding seat and slippery varnished deck made life very interesting. We sailed on the Saturday in a […]

International Canoe – K37

International Canoe K37 – Rannoch Getting an email from Rannoch’s previous owner offering to sell me the boat came as a great surprise and called for a 1000 mile round trip to collect both Rannoch and Zenith (probably the biggest buy-one-get-one-free offer I know of). I think an Uffa Fox boat is the ultimate International […]

International Canoe K26 – Zenith, current state Zenith needs a major rebuild, there are at least six planks to replace and over 20 new ribs required…..and a new deck…..and a mast….ahhh, some sails would be useful as well.

International Canoe K26 – Zenith Zenith is very much a winter project. I had been aware of Zenith for a year or so before being able to head up to Loch Lomond to collect both her and Rannoch. Andrew Eastwood, responsible for the excellent restoration of Rannoch, found Zenith in a field,. He recognised her […]
